Common Questions

Here are some of the most common questions about The Makers Prize.

WHO CAN ENTER?

Any independent, small-scale UK-based maker producing handmade products in the soap, bath, body or home categories.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ENTER?

£50 per product entry.

Each product is a separate entry and is judged independently against our published criteria.

HOW QUICKLY DO I NEED TO SEND MY SAMPLES AND PHOTOGRAPHS?

The Makers Prize 2027 closes on 18 June 2027. Winners will be announced August 2027 (date tbc).

As long as we receive your completed entry, photographs and samples before the closing date, your entry will be considered.

You will need to send four samples of the product entered, together with two high-resolution photographs.

Your samples must be full-size retail products identical to those sold to customers in formulation, size, weight/volume, labelling and packaging.

Photographs must be original photographs of your product and must not be AI-generated.

CAN I ENTER MORE THAN ONE PRODUCT?

Yes. You can enter as many products as you wish, including products in different categories.

Each product requires a separate £50 entry.

WHAT IF MY PRODUCT DOESN’T FIT NEATLY INTO ONE CATEGORY?

If you’re not sure which category your product belongs in, just email us before entering and we’ll be happy to advise.

WHAT IF I CHANGE MY MIND?

You can withdraw your entry from The Makers Prize at any time. Just email us to let us know.

Entry fees are non-refundable.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ENTERING?

The Makers Prize is a peer-led prize recognising the skill and work that goes into small-scale making.

Winning or being shortlisted gives your work recognition among other independent makers and industry specialists.

Winners receive a Makers Prize Winners Mark to use on their website, social media and packaging, along with prizes, vouchers and/or products from our supporting partners.

Winners from previous years may also be invited to become judges in subsequent years.

WHY DID YOU START THE MAKERS PRIZE?

We are soapmakers ourselves and wanted to enter a competition that felt meaningful and connected to the work we do as small-batch makers. We couldn't find one that felt quite right, so we started The Makers Prize ourselves. And, obviously, we won't be entering any of our own products!
