Terms & Conditions

Welcome. These Terms & Conditions apply to all entries submitted to The Makers Prize. By entering, you agree to these terms.

1. Eligibility

To enter the Makers Prize, your business and product must meet all of the following:

  • UK-based: products must be made and sold in the UK.
  • Small batch: maximum of 10 employees.
  • Handmade: products must be crafted by you or your team.
  • Compliance & insurance: you must have CPSR (where required by law) in place and valid insurance (all products).
  • Ethical: we do not accept products made using animal testing.

By entering, you confirm you have the authority to submit this entry on behalf of your business.

2. Entry Fees & Payment

  • Entry fee is £50 per product.
  • You may submit more than one product per category.
  • Payment is required at the time of entry via Shopify Checkout.
  • Entry is confirmed once payment is received.
  • All entries are final for payment purposes: you may choose to withdraw from the competition at any time, but entry fees are non-refundable.
  • Submitted products, samples, and materials cannot be returned once received.
  • We may offer promotions or discounted entry fees at any time, at our discretion. These cannot be applied retrospectively to entries already paid for.

3. Product Submission & Liability

For each product entered, you must provide:

  • 2 high-resolution digital photographs of the product (must be original, non AI images). Minimum 300dpi, at least 2000px on the longest side, supplied as JPG or PNG. Photographs below this standard may not be usable for press and will not be accepted.
  • 4 product samples
  • A brief description (max 250 words) including inspiration, materials, process, story, weight, fragrance, texture, and any special features (e.g., exfoliating, soothing)

We will email full instructions after your order. All materials must be received before the entry closing date.

All entries must include the required product samples and photographs. Failure to provide these will void the entry, and entry fees will not be refunded.

We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that is late, incomplete, or does not meet the eligibility criteria.

Entrants are responsible for the safe delivery of their products. We recommend sending items via tracked service (e.g., Tracked 24 or Tracked 48).

By submitting an entry, you confirm that you are the legal owner of the recipe, formulation, brand name and packaging design submitted, or that you hold all necessary permissions and licences to use them.

4. Use of Images & Descriptions

  • By submitting photographs, you confirm you own them or have permission to use them.
  • We may use submitted images and your product description on our website, social media, newsletters and press releases.
  • You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use the images and description for these purposes.
  • If you win, you agree that we may also share your business and personal bio information in press releases and media coverage relating to the award.

5. Use of Winner Badge / Logo

  • Winners will receive a digital badge/logo to show they've won.
  • The badge can be used on websites, social media, and product packaging only for the product that won.
  • It cannot be modified, resold, or used for other products or purposes.
  • The award applies only to the specific product and entrant it was given to, and cannot be transferred to another product, business, or owner.

6. Revocation of Awards

We reserve the right to revoke any award, at any time, if the winner or their business is found to have misrepresented their entry — including but not limited to the production process, ingredients, or ownership of the product — or is otherwise found to be in breach of these terms.

On revocation, the winner must stop using the Makers Prize badge and any associated marketing materials, and return any trophy issued. No refund or compensation will be given.

7. Liability

  • We take care with your entries, but cannot accept responsibility for lost, damaged, or delayed submissions in transit.
  • Judging decisions are final. We cannot be held liable for disputes over results or scoring.
  • You agree to indemnify us against any third-party claim arising from your entry, including claims relating to intellectual property or product safety.
  • We rely on entrants to correctly disclose ingredients and comply with all relevant product safety regulations. We are not liable for any reaction, injury, or harm arising from the handling, testing, or judging of submitted samples.

8. Event / Showcase Participation

  • If there is an online or in-person showcase of winners, participation is optional.
  • Attendance is not mandatory to claim the award or use the winner badge.

9. Judging & Results

  • Entries are evaluated by a jury of makers, customers, and craft enthusiasts.
  • Judging criteria include: craftsmanship, creativity, originality, and integrity of production.
  • Judges reserve the right to move an entry to a more appropriate category where needed.
  • We reserve the right to withhold an award in any category if no entry meets the required standard.
  • All decisions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding judging outcomes. Entrants agree not to contact judges or assessors directly to influence, appeal, or query a result.

10. Cancellations & Changes

  • Entry fees are non-refundable.
  • We may amend categories, judging panels, or dates if necessary.
  • Entrants will be notified of significant changes.
  • You have the right to withdraw your entry(s) at any point — fees are non-refundable and submitted samples are non-returnable.
  • We are not liable for any delay or cancellation of judging, showcases, or announcements caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
  • We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. The version in force at the time you submit your entry will apply to that entry.

11. Data & Privacy

We will not hold your personal data for longer than 24 months from the date of entry without your renewed consent, except where we are required to retain order and payment records for accounting and tax purposes. See our full Privacy Policy for further detail.

Entering the Makers Prize does not sign you up to our mailing list. Mailing list sign-up is optional and separate, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

12. Governing Law

    • These Terms & Conditions are governed by Scottish law.
    • Any disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
