FAQs

Here are some of the most common questions about The Makers Prize:

Who can enter?
Any independent, small-scale UK-based maker producing handmade products in bath, body, or home categories.
How much does it cost to enter?
It is £45 for your first entry. Subsequent entries are discounted by 50%. A small number of subsidised places are available for start-ups — please email us if this applies.
If I pay to enter a product, how quickly do I need to send you the 3 samples and photographs?
The Prize for 2026 closes on 31/05. As long as we receive your paperwork, samples, and photographs before that date, your entry will be considered. N.B. your submitted samples must be full-size retail products identical to those sold to customers in formulation, size, weight/volume, labelling, and packaging. Images must be originals - not AI-generated.
Can I enter more than one product?
Yes, you can enter as many products as you wish and you can enter products in different categories. Just make sure you select the corresponding number of entries at checkout - i.e. one product = one entry, 2 products = 2 entries, etc.
What are the benefits for me?
The Makers Prize is a peer-led prize aimed at recognising the contribution and skills of independent makers. It celebrates craftsmanship, originality, and dedication, and gives your work visibility among peers and industry specialists. Unlike larger corporate prizes, which reward mass-production or commercial scale, this prize is designed for the unique world of small-scale, handmade businesses. Winning or being shortlisted is a mark of esteem within our community, and entrants often discover connections with other makers, inspiration, and opportunities to collaborate.

Winners will also receive a “Winners Mark” to use on their website, social media, and packaging, along with vouchers and/or products from leading suppliers as a small celebratory token.

Winners from the first year are invited to become judges in subsequent years, helping to shape and strengthen this community of independent craft.
Why did you start The Makers Prize?
We are soapmakers ourselves and wanted to enter a competition that felt meaningful and connected to our practice as small-batch makers. Not finding one, we started The Makers Prize ourselves. Obviously, we won’t be entering any of our own products!
