Welcome. These Terms & Conditions apply to all entries submitted to The Makers Prize. By entering, you agree to these terms.
1. Eligibility
To enter the Makers Prize, your business and product must meet all of the following:
1.1 UK-based: products must be made and sold in the UK.
1.2 Small batch: maximum of 10 employees.
1.3 Handmade: products must be crafted by you or your team.
1.4 Compliance & insurance: you must have CPSR (where required by law) in place and valid insurance (all products).
1.5 Ethical: we do not accept products made using animal testing.
2. Entry Fees & Payment
2.1.Entry fee is £45 per product.
2.2 You may submit more than one product per category.
2.3 Payment is required at the time of entry via Shopify Checkout.
2.4 Entry is confirmed once payment is received.
2.5 We reserve the right to offer discounted or promotional entry pricing (including multi-entry offers) at our discretion, for specific periods. Standard pricing applies unless a promotion is explicitly stated at the time of entry.
2.6 Entries close at the 18th June 2027. Entries received after this date will not be accepted.
2.7 All entries are final for payment purposes: you may choose to withdraw from the competition at any time, but entry fees are non-refundable.
2.8 Submitted products, samples, and materials cannot be returned once received.
3. Product Submission & Liability
For each product entered, you must provide:
3.1 Two digital photographs of the product (original, non-AI images, high-resolution — minimum 1200px wide, JPEG or PNG, files CLEARLY LABELLED with your brand name) e.g "COTTAGE_SOAP_COMPANY_IMAGE_1".
3.2 Four product samples of the same size, weight, packaging as the product is sold in your shop.
3.3 A brief description (max 250 words) including inspiration, materials, process, story, weight, fragrance, texture, and any special features (e.g., exfoliating, soothing)
3.4 We will email full instructions after your order. All materials must be received before the entry closing date.
3.5 Entrants are responsible for supplying photographs that meet the stated resolution requirements. We're unable to chase up or request replacement images, so please check files carefully before sending.
3.6 All entries must include the required product samples and photographs. Failure to provide these will void the entry, and entry fees will not be refunded.
3.7 Entrants are responsible for the safe delivery of their products. We recommend sending items via a tracked service (e.g., Tracked 24 or Tracked 48).
4. Use of Images
4.1 By submitting photographs, you confirm you own them or have permission to use them.
4.2 We may use submitted images on our website, social media, newsletters and press releases.
4.3 You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use the images for these purposes.
5. Use of Winner Badge / Logo
5.1 Winners will receive a digital badge/logo to show they've won.
5.2 The badge can be used on websites, social media, and product packaging only for the product that won.
5.3 It cannot be modified, resold, or used for other products or purposes.
6. Liability
6.1 We take care with your entries, but cannot accept responsibility for lost, damaged, or delayed submissions in transit.
6.2 Judging decisions are final. We cannot be held liable for disputes over results or scoring.
7. Event / Showcase Participation
7.1 If there is an online or in-person showcase of winners, participation is optional.
7.2 Attendance is not mandatory to claim the award or use the winner badge.
8. Judging & Results
8.1 Entries are evaluated by an independent panel of judges.
8.2 Judging criteria are published on our website.
8.3 The Makers Prize reserves the right to withhold any award, including the Overall Winner title, in any year where no entry meets the required standard. This decision rests solely with the judging panel.
8.4 All decisions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding judging outcomes. Entrants agree not to contact judges or assessors directly to influence, appeal, or query a result.
9. Cancellations & Changes
9.1 Entry fees are non-refundable.
9.2 We may amend categories, judging panels, or dates if necessary.
9.3 We reserve the right to withdraw a category at any time.
9.4 We reserve the right to extend the entry deadline.
9.5 Entrants will be notified of significant changes.
9.6 You have the right to withdraw your entry at any point — fees are non-refundable and submitted samples are non-returnable.
10. Governing Law
10.1 These Terms & Conditions are governed by Scottish law.
10.2 Any disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
