Anita

Goat Milk Soapmaker • Barley Farm

What got you into making? My journey began with a mission of conservation. I am a steward of the Royal Golden Guernsey, a rare and beautiful heritage breed. To protect their future, I wanted to create a sustainable way to share the incredible gifts they provide. Goat’s milk soap became the perfect tribute to their heritage. Using the raw, exceptionally rich milk from my own herd, I set out to create a product that was as pure as the landscape they graze on—free from palm oil and chemicals, and rooted in traditional, patient artisan methods.

What feeds your creativity? I am inspired by the “ammil”—those rare moments when a thin film of ice transforms the countryside into a glistening crystal world. This sense of purity shapes my creative process. I draw my palette from the pastures, using wild-harvested botanicals like the vibrant yellows of Calendula, calming Chamomile, and the earthy resilience of Nettle. Blending these with the creamy richness of milk, I strive to create something truly restorative.

Whats one thing you love about your day as a maker? I love the slowness of the craft. In a world that is often too fast, the slow-curing process of my soap requires a level of patience that I find deeply grounding. There is a profound sense of satisfaction in taking raw ingredients—milk from my own goats and herbs from my own land—and watching them transform over weeks into a silky, long-lasting bar. It’s a tactile connection to the seasons and the cycle of the farm that feels both ancient and essential.

Tell us about a small joy you find in your day? The quiet morning check-in with the herd. Before the business of the day starts, being out in the field with the Golden Guernseys, hearing the soft rustle of the pasture and seeing the sun catch their coats, is my greatest simple pleasure. It reminds me exactly why I do what I do. That moment of peace is the "ingredient" I hope to pass on to my customers when they use a bar of our soap at the end of their own long day. Cleo

Soapmaker • Homeware Maker • Earth Botanicals

What got you into making? My love for all things natural got me into making. I embarked on a Foundation Herbal Medicine Practitioners course and alongside learning different types of herbal medicines, I started to forage and make natural, vegan topical applications such as balms, oil infusions and soaps — I realised this is what I was meant to be doing all along.

What feeds your creativity? My surroundings, family and dog feed my creativity — I feel blessed to live at the foot of the South Downs and make sure I am in the woods where I feel most at home on a daily basis — my dog Lola makes that easy. I am surrounded by ancient woodland and the expanse of the English Channel and I feel it, which opens my heart and mind.

Whats one thing you love about your day as a maker? I always start my day with a coffee and a walk. I’m generally organised but it’s during this time where I can really map out my day in my mind and also get quite excited about it.

Tell us about a small joy you find in your day? My small joy is any mealtime — I love my food! Work-wise, it’s filling my home with the aroma of carefully blended essential oils which lifts me up.

Liz

Candlemaker • Liz Corley Art

What got you into making? I’ve been a secondary school art teacher for over 23 years, and my love of the British countryside naturally inspired my hand-painted artwork to evolve into products, while my passion for candles brings everything together into a creative and meaningful collection.

What feeds your creativity? Living on the edge of the Cotswolds, the changing seasons, quiet dog walks, and surrounding countryside all provide constant inspiration for my work.

Whats one thing you love about your day as a maker? There’s something wonderfully calming in the quiet, unhurried act of painting onto vessels - whilst drinking a cup of coffee! Bliss!

Tell us about a small joy you find in your day? Being in control of my time throughout the day.

Brogan

Candles & Home Fragrance • Mountain View Melts.

What got you into making? I handcraft home fragrances under my brand Mountain View Melts, including candles, wax melts, reed diffusers, and room sprays. All my fragrances are designed to bring calm, cosy moments into everyday life. I started creating during the pandemic, and launched my business in 2023. Making fragrances has been my little slice of calm amidst the chaos of my work in social care.

What feeds your creativity? My creativity comes from two main loves of my life … quiet moments of spa like zen, and the wildness of Northern Ireland. I absolutely adore when a new idea pops into my head and starts coming together - being able to pull a concept into a real life product I can hold in my hands brings me real joy. There’s something really grounding in being able to bring my ideas to life.

Whats one thing you love about your day as a maker? There’s something really special about seeing an idea become a real-life product. Each stage of creation - from concept to finished item - is incredibly rewarding, and it’s a joy to know that my work brings comfort to people in their homes.

Tell us about a small joy you find in your day? A small every day joy is lighting a candle or a wax melt at the end of a long day and sinking into the comfort of home, little rituals make everything feel intentional!
